As wedding invitations continue to arrive, so too does the age-old question: what should one wear? Selecting the perfect outfit has become a carefully curated task, considering not just comfort and color, but how well the ensemble photographs — and fits into a wedding’s aesthetic.
With high-street brands dedicating entire sections to wedding guest attire, the category has evolved into its own fashion genre. While traditional choices such as floral prints and flowing midi dresses remain popular, 2025 offers bolder options for guests looking to elevate their wedding wardrobe.
Fashion stylist Oriona Robb outlines the top five wedding guest trends to look out for this season:
Polka Dots: A Retro Revival with a Couture Twist
Polka dots have made a refined comeback for spring/summer 2025. “Polka dots are having a couture moment,” says Robb. “They’re playful yet polished and lend a whisper of retro charm to modern silhouettes.” To keep the look elegant, she recommends choosing luxurious fabrics such as silk or chiffon and opting for large, spaced-out dots in muted hues.
Drop Waist Dresses: Flattering with the Right Fabric
Previously favored in bridal design, the drop waist silhouette is gaining momentum among wedding guests. Though potentially tricky to wear, Robb advises selecting structured crepes or draped silks to flatter the figure without clinging. “If you’re still unsure, balance the shape with statement heels and sculptural accessories,” she adds.
Pastel Perfection: Soft Shades Beyond Butter Yellow
Butter yellow may have been a standout shade this season, but Robb warns that its popularity could make it less distinctive. Instead, she suggests exploring other pastel tones like periwinkle, powder blue, blush pink, and soft pistachio. “Choose a color that suits your undertone, and pair with metallic accessories to elevate the ensemble,” she advises.
Modern Boho: A Luxe Take on a Classic Look
Bohemian elements such as ruffles, fringe, and sheer fabrics are being reimagined with sophistication for 2025. “Skip the clichés and lean into luxe materials — embroidered silk, delicate lace, and fluid satin in earthy tones,” Robb says. To complete the look, she recommends layering jewelry with bangles and mixed-length necklaces, topped off with a sculpted clutch and soft, natural waves.
Tulle and Tutus: Ballerina-Inspired Elegance
The ballerina-inspired trend may have peaked in 2024, but tulle and tutus are enjoying a continued presence on the runway. Sales of tulle skirts have surged by 109% year-on-year, according to Clearpay data, signaling their mainstream appeal. To keep the look modern, Robb suggests pairing voluminous tulle skirts or layered dresses in neutral or blush tones with sleek, minimal accessories. “Let the texture do the talking,” she advises. “Keep everything else pared back for a polished effect.”
Whether embracing bold silhouettes or soft shades, 2025 wedding guest fashion offers a diverse palette of styles designed to make a tasteful impression — without outshining the bride.
