Ahmedabad: In blatant defiance of Gujarat’s liquor prohibition laws, a groom was filmed handing out bottles of beer to friends and relatives during his wedding procession. The incident, which occurred in Rintoda village in Aravalli district, has drawn widespread attention after a video of the event went viral on social media Thursday.
The video, taken on April 21, shows the groom seated on a horse as he receives a crate of beer from someone in the procession. As loud music plays in the background, the groom enthusiastically opens the crate and distributes beer bottles to his guests, who are seen dancing and celebrating around him.
The Local Crime Branch (LCB) quickly took action after the footage spread online, leading to the arrest of two individuals. However, the groom, identified as a key participant, remains at large. “Beer bottles were openly distributed during a wedding procession, and the video showing individuals carrying and splashing beer has gone viral, prompting police action under the Gujarat Prohibition Act,” stated a release from the Aravalli police.
Following the viral video, Bhiloda police identified Ajay Hotha, a resident of Rintoda, as the person carrying the beer crate. He was arrested along with Hitesh Pandor, who was seen spraying beer from a bottle. The groom, who was filmed distributing the beer, has also been named as a suspect in the case.
A case under the Gujarat Prohibition Act was filed against the groom and the two arrested individuals on Tuesday. Police teams have been assigned to locate the groom and identify others who may have been involved in the illegal distribution and consumption of alcohol during the wedding celebrations.
