New York City, March 14, 2025 — A new dining experience inspired by the grandeur of Indian weddings has arrived in Greenwich Village. Madam Ji Ki Shaadi, which translates to “Madam Ji Is Getting Married,” opened its doors on 154 Bleecker Street on Tuesday, offering a feast of Indian wedding fare and a vibrant atmosphere that celebrates the culture, rituals, and joy of nuptial celebrations.
The brainchild of Chef Abishek Sharma, the restaurant is a unique concept that combines traditional Indian wedding cuisine with immersive decor and a festive atmosphere. Sharma, who is also behind two other Indian restaurants in Manhattan—Rang and Swagat—is no stranger to the world of wedding catering, having run a successful catering business specializing in destination weddings.
“The inspiration for Madam Ji Ki Shaadi comes from the vibrant and joyous celebrations of Indian weddings,” said Sharma. “These events are immersive experiences filled with music, dance, rituals, and incredible food. I wanted to capture that energy and create a space where every night feels like a big fat Bollywood wedding.”
Upon arrival, guests are welcomed with the option of wearing a bindi, and then are treated to a $64 pre-fixe wedding menu that includes dishes traditionally served at Indian weddings, along with notes explaining the rituals that inspired the dining experience. The meal begins with a sparkling welcome drink and golgappe (crispy lentil spheres with masala aloo) at the bar.
The experience continues as guests are escorted to their seats for a feast featuring small bites, appetizers, mains, and desserts. Some highlights of the menu include beetroot chaat, chili chicken bao, chipotle paneer or chicken tikka kebabs, as well as vegetarian options. The meal also includes traditional dishes such as Delhi-style Makhani chicken in a rich tomato-based sauce and slow-cooked gosht royale (goat), served with naan, chutneys, and rice.
Each dinner table is set with a golden thali tray that holds the wedding-inspired dishes, with guests enjoying the full “wedding feast” experience. “It’s about joy, indulgence, and creating unforgettable memories,” said Sharma, referring to the tasting menu’s resemblance to the flow of a traditional wedding reception.
The restaurant’s decor further enhances the immersive experience. Different sections are designed to represent various stages of a wedding celebration: a bright yellow section represents the Haldi prosperity ceremony, blue and green evoke the Sangeet dance, and red symbolizes the bridal color. The dining space is complemented by a DJ-curated playlist filled with classic Indian wedding beats and Bollywood-style music, setting the tone for the night.
For those looking to fully embrace the theme, diners are encouraged to wear formal wedding attire or traditional Indian outfits, though casual attire is also welcome. Whether you’re celebrating a wedding or reminiscing about one, the restaurant offers a vibrant and festive space for all. Additionally, the venue is available for private events, providing a unique atmosphere for special occasions.
“We are creating a platform for wedding planners, DJs, and wedding fashion and décor companies to showcase their work and give their clients a taste of what an Indian wedding feels like,” said Sharma. “This space is more than just a restaurant—it’s a cultural hub, a place to experience the grandeur, flavors, and vibrancy of Indian weddings.”
For those seeking inspiration for an upcoming wedding or simply looking to indulge in the joy of a shaadi feast, Madam Ji Ki Shaadi offers an unforgettable celebration of Indian culture, music, food, and tradition.
