A well-known Oxfordshire wedding venue and hotel has been severely criticized following a recent hygiene inspection.
Wroxton House Hotel, located on Stratford Road in Wroxton near Banbury, has earned recognition for its 32 rooms and restaurant. The venue is also licensed to host civil ceremonies both indoors and outdoors, with a capacity of up to 90 guests for weddings.
However, following a visit by Cherwell District Council’s Environmental Health team on Friday, February 21, the hotel was handed a disappointing one-out-of-five food hygiene rating, with inspectors citing a need for “major improvement.”
The primary area of concern identified during the inspection was food safety management, which also required “major improvement.” This includes having proper systems and checks in place to ensure the food served is safe to eat. Inspectors also noted concerns about whether the staff had adequate knowledge of food safety practices, as well as doubts over whether future standards would be maintained.
The findings are a blow to the hotel, known for its picturesque setting and event-hosting capabilities, and raise questions about the venue’s commitment to maintaining food safety standards.
