A wedding ceremony at the Assemblies of God Church in Okpu 2, Aba, Abia State, was abruptly canceled last weekend after the bride allegedly refused to adhere to the church’s pre-marriage requirements.
According to reports, the bride declined to spend the night at the church’s parsonage, where she was supposed to receive counseling from the wife of the officiating pastor the night before the wedding. As part of the church’s tradition, a pregnancy test was also scheduled to take place before the ceremony.
Sources revealed that the bride had been informed of these requirements ahead of time, and she had previously agreed to them, understanding them as part of the Assemblies of God doctrine. However, she failed to show up at the parsonage on the eve of the wedding.
Promise Uzoma Okoro, a witness to the events, explained that the bride’s refusal to follow these procedures led the church authorities to cancel the wedding, despite guests already gathering for the event.
“The announcement was made to the assembled guests, leaving them in confusion and disappointment,” Okoro said.
It remains unclear whether the bride and her fiancé managed to find another pastor to officiate their wedding at a different location. As of the time of this report, neither the church nor the couple has issued an official statement regarding the cancellation.
Guests, many of whom had traveled from various locations to attend the ceremony, were left disappointed as they dispersed after the cancellation.
